Terry Fox Run 2015

Terry Fox 2015

It’s my favourite time of the year… time for the annual Terry Fox Run!  As many of you may know, Terry and the entire Terry Fox Foundation hold a very special place in my heart.  A few years after I lost my best friend to the same cancer at only 9 years of age, Terry came on the scene and started his run just a couple of miles from where we grew up in NFLD.

And they both inspired me with their courage.

Join us on Sunday September 20th 2015… we’ll be at the Toronto Central YMCA event.  You don’t have to run!  You can donate a few dollars, or just come on out to show your support and encouragement.  The Brides’ Project happily donated $25,000 to support this organization in funding cancer research.

Donations galore!

I think my index finger has become a little trigger happy, because every time I see a giant “Donate Now” button I seem to gleefully click on it!

So, just to keep you posted on mid-year donations, we’ve sent along $10K to Gilda’s Club, $15K to Wellspring, $15K to the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybook and $15K to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation.  Soon to come, donations to the Terry Fox Foundation (the run is coming up on Sept 20th!!!) and the Sicks Kids Foundation (cancer support).

Really, really, newly married

We certainly don’t expect this of ‘our brides’, but it sure is a delight when they write to us after the wedding and share some of the joy!  Jordana is very literally a newlywed, and we’re so flattered that she thought of us and forwarded this beautiful note:
I had my wedding this past  weekend (on Sunday August 2) and didn’t want to forget to send you all some pictures and my thanks.
I LOVED my dress and received so many compliments! Pom did a great job reconstructing it to make it fit perfectly. It was so beautiful!
I felt so incredibly special in this stunning dress that I have because of the great work you guys do. Your dedication to the Brides Project and volunteering to help women find the perfect wedding dress all the while raising awareness and money for cancer research is truly wonderful.
It was a beautiful feeling to know that the proceeds for my wedding dress go to cancer research. There are so many people in our lives impacted by cancer. It was nice to do a little bit at this happy and exciting time to help fight this awful disease in the hopes that everyone has many more happy times to celebrate.
Thanks for helping make my special day extra special.

Congratulations Jordana, you look stunning and we hope you had a fabulous day… to be followed with a lifetime of health and happiness with your hubby 🙂

One of our own…

It’s so exciting when we get to celebrate the wedding of one of our own volunteers, and follow her through the process of planning from the engagement until the big day!  And of course, there are benefits of being on the crew here, and one of the many, many, many great things is that you see all the new arrivals and get to snap up that perfect dress before it hits the racks.

Robyn was kind enough to let us share a couple of shots from her wedding day, and needless to say, she looks absolutely stunning.  Here’s a photo of her reading the lovely letter that came with the dress, written by the original owner.  She has included this letter with one of her own for the next lucky bride 🙂

On behalf of the entire staff here at The Brides’ Project, we would like to wish Robyn and her handsome hubby Orr a fabulous and exciting journey as they move to NYC to start the next chapter in their lives together.  We’re going to miss her terribly.  She touched the hearts of all our crew in addition to oodles of lucky brides who she helped in the shop.  Thank You Robyn, not only for the hours upon hours that you spent helping us fight cancer, but for being your amazing self.  WE LOVE YOU!  xoxo

Introducing the Mr. & Mrs!

We just love it when our clients send us photos of the big day.  It’s great to see them looking so beautiful and so happy, and allows us to vicariously enjoy a little piece of the excitement!  Congratulations and a big Thank You to Jenn and her hubby Sebastian who sent us the shots below that are taken by Sarah Thomson of Tree Fort Photography.  Jenn’s dress and veil are from The Brides’ Project.

Donation update for 2014!

I’m so excited to report that our donations for 2014 have exceeded $120,000!  It’s our best year yet… with more to come in 2015 and beyond.  To date, we have raised over half a million dollars, and your support has been incredible.  Thank you to all the brides, the salon donors, the tireless volunteers and the many others who have made this possible.  To quote the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, “WE WILL CONQUER CANCER IN OUR LIFETIME!”  Visit our Beneficiaries page to learn more about our donations.

Wonderful end to 2013!

Some folks celebrate the end of the year with parties, dancing and all kinds of good stuff.  Well we do too!  We finished off the year with donations to bring us to another annual total of just over $100,000!!!  Needless to say, much dancing was had once the numbers came in, and we have YOU to thank!

We’ll have the specifics posted soon on our beneficiaries page, including our promise to continue making this magnitude of contribution in the fight against cancer for 2014.

May the year ahead bring you all great health and happiness, from all of us at The Brides’ Project!

Cheering on the Sisterhood!

On September 7-8, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Boobs, Brains and Bums will be walking 60km through the streets of Toronto, in both rain and sunshine, for The Princess Margaret Weekend to End Women’s Cancers.  They asked for our support, and we were delighted to sponsor them $10,000 for the event.  We would like to wish them well for their third year in a row, and to congratulate them for their enthusiasm and phenomenal fundraising efforts to fight cancer!  You can click here to help with a donation to their team or check out the route and cheer them on.

Over $100,000 donated in 2012

With a HUGE thank you to all our donors, brides to be and volunteer staff, I am absolutely tickled pink to report that we donated just over $100,000 in 2012.  This is absolutely incredible, and a milestone that would be impossible to achieve without the contribution of so many people.

This year our donations supported Camp Quality, Relay for Life (Canadian Cancer Society), Gilda’s Club, Wellspring, Prostate Cancer Canada, the Terry Fox Foundation, the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers (Princess Margaret Hospital) and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.  Needless to say, we plan to continue this support in 2013.  Thank you, thank you and THANK YOU for your tremendous support!
